Unit 3 - Community arts project

Monday 13th March
Today was the first day that we were going to be going into the primary school to work with the children in preparation for the River Carnival in April. Every Monday morning for the next few weeks, we will be going into Lord Scudamore to work with the children to practice their lines ready for the performance in April.
When we arrived at the school, we were told that we would be working with several different children today either individually or in small groups.
The first child that we worked with was Harley. Harley was quite shy when he first came into the room. Before we started rehearsing the lines that Harley had been given, we carried out a very simple and quick warmup which was led by Cara. All of the exercises and activities that we carried out today were led by Cara so we could see how to work with the children and how to use the time effectively. In the upcoming weeks, we will have the chance to lead the sessions and work with the children to make sure they deliver their lines to the best of their ability. After the warmup with Harley, we started to run through the script. At the start of the session, Harley was saying his lines very quietly and didn’t have much projection. However, as the session went on, he became more confident and was able to use more projection when he was delivering his lines. Here is a picture of me and Emily helping and giving advice as to how Harley could improve his delivery of his lines.
The next child that we worked with was Evie. Evie was also very quiet and shy when we first met her. She wasn’t very confident with her lines so once we had run over the lines a few times so that she could memorise them, she was able to add some tone and projection to her words.
Lastly, we then worked with Lexie and Richa. These 2 girls were more confident with their lines so we were able to work on things such as projection and posture more closely. By the end of the session, both Lexie and Richa had improved a lot in regards to their tone of voice, intonation and projection.
All of the children that we have worked with today progressed a lot by being able to learn some of their lines, learning how to project and using projection in their voices and overall becoming more confident.
