Unit 3 - Community arts project

Monday 24th April
Today in the session we were creating props ready for the performance of ‘River Song’. We used the art studio within college to create these props. The brief that we had been given from Rachel (the director of the performance) was to create 2 curtains which the children would walk through as part of the performance. She sent us a big piece of fabric which we had to make the curtains out of. Firstly, we had to cut the piece of fabric into strips. To perform this task more quickly, we cut the fabric into 3 smaller pieces and each person took one piece and started to cut the piece into strips. I also had the idea of folding the material in half so that we had to cut half of the distance and then this would mean that the job would get done quicker. Once all of the material was cut up into smaller strips, we had to paint each individual strip. We had to paint the strips different colours like green, blue and brown which would act like the reeds in the river. Each individual strip would then be attached to another piece of fabric. This would then create a curtain which is going to be used during the performance. Once we had finished painting all of the strips and sticking them to another piece of fabric to create the curtain, I went over the painted strips with a little bit of silver paint. This silver paint is going to stand out amongst the dark colours and will hopefully catch the light. Here are some pictures of the curtains that we made today:
