Unit 3 - Community arts project

Realising my role as part of the community project
Over the past few weeks I have helped the children in several ways as a contribution to this community arts project. When we went into Lord Scudamore Primary School, we worked with the children each week to improve their speech delivery. We worked with several different children to improve their line delivery. We helped them with aspects such as projection, tone of voice and tunefulness. The improvements and feedback that we gave to the children were visibly noticeable as they improved over the weeks.
Another role that I took on as part of the community project was assisting with the prop making. Over the Easter holidays, Cara was receiving emails from Estelle and Rachel (the directors of the performance) saying that they still hadn’t received the funding that they had applied for at the end of last year. Therefore, prop making was left to the last minute and me; Emily and Cara were asked to create some props when we arrived back to college after the Easter break. We worked together to create 2 reed curtains which the children would walk through during the performance. We also printed out 4 sets of minnow’s eyes, 84 in total, which would make up part of some of the children’s costume.
Another role that I took on was actually on the day of the performance. On the day we were given the role of handing out the headsets to the audience members. The children came into college to record the audio on 2 Wednesday afternoons which was quite difficult as the children had no previous experience of recording in a studio before. George, who attends Hereford Cathedral School, edited all of the audio that was recorded. He found it very difficult to edit and took him a long time because all of the children spoke at different levels. Therefore, he had to alter the volume of the children’s voices so that there was a sense of continuity. This meant that Estelle and Rachel were unsure of whether the editing was going to be finished in time for rehearsal of the show.
