Unit 26 - Choreographing dance

Wednesday 1^st November

The main aim of the session today was to collect some more ideas as to what the end of year showcase is going to entail.

Over the half term break, Laura and I have had some separate ideas and today we brought both of our ideas together and discussed what we think will work and what might not work.

The first thing that we discussed was the opening number to the show. Laura played me the song which we are thinking of choreographing a dance to which will open the show. The song is called ‘A thousand years’ by Christina Perri. I love this song and think that it would work really well at the start of the performance. The dance would include a mixture of solo and duet parts which would then build up to form the whole dance. Because we are going along the lines of theming the show around the movie Maleficent, the original idea was to just have a younger Maleficent who will be played by Eve and the older Maleficent who will be played by me. The audience would then see a change in the character as Maleficent grows upW. However, we have now had the idea to bring in more children. Because Maleficent has a male best friend in the film, we thought that it would be great to have a male best friend in the show. Therefore, we had to find a boy who would be able to perform with Eve and then a boy who would be able to perform with me. We already have 2 boys in mind who we think will fit the role perfectly but we need to check with them to see if they are up for it first. The boys are called Toby who would be partnered with Eve and Luke who would be partnered with me. Then, Laura had the idea to have a set of even younger Maleficent and her male best friend. She has already got some ideas of which children will be able to play these parts. However, we also need to check if these children are up for the performance but if they are, it will be Anna and Aidan playing the younger pair. Therefore, in this opening number, all 6 of the characters will perform in the dance.

I then worked with Laura and we mapped out the ideas which we have had which go with the track. We then worked out the times of which each person would enter and exit. Here are these times:

·     Aidan and Anna start off the piece until 0:54.

·     Aidan and Anna exit ad Eve enters at 0:54.

·     At 1:29, Toby joins Eve onstage.

·     Toby and Eve exit at 1:54.

·     I enter

We haven’t quite worked out what I will be doing for the rest of the track yet but we still have a lot of time to decide this.
