Wednesday 15th
November
In
this session today we weren’t doing anything practical. It was more of a
session to discuss any further ideas we have for the show and to reflect on how
the teaching is going in the primary school. We have done all of the practical
work we can do at the moment. We are waiting to hear back from a boy who we
think would suit a role really well in this performance but we can’t do
anything until we know if he can be part of the performance or not.
We
first started talking about how the teaching is going in the primary school.
The first time we went into the school I was really nervous about teaching
because I didn’t know what to expect and what the ability would be of the
children. However, I am now a lot more confident when going into the school and
working with the children. Both Eve and Toby are really capable and they are
both committed to learn the choreography. I’m really looking forward to working
with Eve and Toby in the new year and performing with them in the show in May
2018.
Secondly,
we started talking about the show and how we think the story is going to pan
out. We reviewed over the many different technical elements which we are
thinking of incorporating. We then thought it would be a good idea to have a meeting
with Paul, the head of The Chapel Arts Centre, to share our ideas with him and
see what may or may not be possible. We managed to agree that this afternoon
would be a good time for the 3 of us to sit down and have some discussion over
these ideas.
After
we had sorted out the meeting, we started to look for possible costumes. We
want to be organised and ready for the showcase early so that we can make it
the best that it can be. We managed to find a few different costumes online
which fitted with our theme. Here are some links to the costumes which we have
been looking at.
Adult
black/white dress:
Child
white dress:
As
you can see, these dresses are both quite similar and this is the effect that
we are going for because we want it to look like the character is growing up. We
are not quite sure what the boys are going to wear at this moment but we will
keep looking for possible ideas.
Another
part of costume which needs to be carefully picked are the wings that we will
be earing. Each girl will have a set of wings as we will all be playing a
different age of the same character, Maleficent. The children will probably be
wearing small wings which will be easy to dance in and hopefully won’t restrict
their movement at all. However, because I am playing the character when she has
grown up, I will need bigger wings. We need to carefully pick these because
although they need to look effective, I need to be able to move well in them.
Therefore, we will probably have to have these made especially so that they are
comfortable for me to move in and fit what we have been imagining. However we
do need to keep in mind that we only have a small budget of this performance.
