I
attended this extra session today so that I could spend some time with most of
the members of the cast to develop our characters a bit further.
For
the session we were hot seating each of the characters to improve our characterisation.
Each member of the cast (except Danielle) took it in turns to sit in front of
the rest of the cast as if they were a panel. The panel had to ask the
character questions about their daily life such as ‘Do you have any siblings?’
or ‘What do you like to do in your spare time?’ We worked through the
characters one by one and we filmed each of characters answering questions.
Here is a video of me carrying out the hot seat exercise:
Here
are a few facts about my character:
· She is from a Kingdom
far far away.
· She is the only fairy
in her family as she has no brothers or sisters.
· Her favourite colour is
pink.
· Her favourite fruit is
a pink grapefruit.
· Sees herself as a
healthy eating ambassador.
· She has several
different magic powers – can send messages in the air to other magical
creatures just by thinking, can fly and can also cast spells with her magical
wand.
· Currently working on a
healthy eating project.
· Her wand is very
magical and she has to have them specially made.
I
find hot seating quite difficult as it puts you on the spot and you have to put
yourself in the shoes of your character and think how they would respond to the
question. However, I think that I carried out this exercise today quite well as
I was able to answer all of the questions that I was asked and was able to
think on the spot. I also think that everyone else in the group did really well
as they all actively participated in asking questions to the other characters
and were all able to answer effectively the questions that they were given.
Hopefully we will be able to use the information that we have gathered today
within the performance as this will teach the audience a bit more about each of
the characters allowing them to engage in the performance more.
Yes, it does put you on the spot but this activity gave you a lot of source material for your character so it was well worth doing. It also helped you to write your own song about character.
