I
decided that I would attend this session today because it meant that we would
be able to spend more time as a group working on the performance. The main
focus of the session was to try and get Molly and Kellyann to contribute more
ideas to the devising process as they are currently just saying the lines that
they have been given and not contributing any ideas as to what else could be
included in the performance. Also, another focus is to try and get Molly and
Kellyann to become less inhibited and to explore more with their characters. We
will be working on this for the next few weeks during rehearsals.
Throughout
the session, we ran through the scenes which we have devised so far and tried
to tighten up on the words a little. I am currently in the process of writing the
first draft script as we need to start writing otherwise we won’t have enough
time to learn our lines.
Another
key thing that we did in this session was that we introduced a new prop. In the
props cupboard, we found a rainbow painted chair which we thought would be
great for the show as it is brightly coloured and we thought that it would
bring potential to the performance. We haven’t decided what the chair will be
called yet but we know that the chair will be ‘magic’. We then incorporated
this into the start of the show when Annie Apple enters.
Towards
the end of the session, we spent some time working on some choreography for the
‘Sweetie Day’ song. I took lead for this and decided to make something quite
simple up so that it is easy for Molly and Kellyann to learn. We didn’t have
much time to choreograph anything so I just choreographed something for the
chorus. During the chorus, the 3 characters stand centre stage holding hands.
In unison, they step onto one foot to the side and then kick the other foot over
at a diagonal in front of the supporting leg. It took me a while to teach Molly
this move because she dosen’t have any sight at all so I had to explain the
move in quite a lot of detail so that she could understand what is going on. We
will work on this choreography in the next session and will probably be a
continuous process to make sure that the moves are perfected.
To
finish off the lesson we had a run through of everything that we had covered in
the session. During this run-through, our lecturer Cara gave us some pointers
and feedback along the way. Here is a video of us during the final run-through:
Well observed and documented Charlotte.
